Exploring the Explorables
Trekking through the explorable zones is both exciting and dangerous.
The explorer should never take the level of a mob for granted. Mobs in
attrition can kill you off just as fast as that single big mob. Using
henchman works well if you do not have a PC group to go with. AI
henchman are fairly reliable and make exploration much easier and
more interesting than trying to solo it.
Party Make Up
Monks are essential to the party as they offer healing. Warriors are
also essential as they are the main "tank." So that raises the
question: is a Ranger or an Elementalist needed? Elementalist provide
more damage quicker though Rangers have more lasting power. Ranger
henchman, however, do not use pets, which does not utilize the class'
abilities to their full potential. Experience grinding is fairly
painless because your party keeps moving. There are always new things
to see and combat is fairly quick.
Henchmen don't attack until you attack first. When I say attack I don?t
mean casting a spell, I mean attacking and doing actual damage. This
can make it a bit tricky, as gaining agro from the beginning is not
wise for casters. Passing off the agro as soon as you can is better
than not. So, when your Warrior and Ranger have agro step back and
Exploring the zones takes a little thought. Approach areas with a lot
of mobs carefully, especially if it is an area you have not traveled
before or is a mob you have not fought before. You never know what
abilities they posess. Use the Tab key to toggle through the mobs to
see what they are and at what level when they appear on the compass
screen. It's easier to plan ahead than to react after they are in view.
Running into eternal damnation because you think you can win is fun but
not practical. Exploration takes time, standing and waiting to heal or
regain power takes up time so put thought into entering a fight. Dying
in the middle of a remote zone, for an example, Deldrimor Bowl, is not
fun, since returning is a bit of a trek, unless you have already opened
up Lornar's Pass or The Frost Gate. Exploring off the beaten path is
also a good idea if the game will let you.
There are quests in the explorable zones. North Kyrta Province has the
Bandit Quest. Old Ascelon has the Lodestone and Gargoyle Fang Quests.
Quests are fun and good ways for characters of appropriate level to
gain gold or items or experience. Wandering the zone and getting
rewarded for it is always a bonus.
Things To Find
There are things to find in the explorable zones, such as ways to go
between districts without doing the co-op missions or other gems such
as remote trainers. Some mobs have a tendency to drop certain kinds of
salvage so they are available for the killing without having to do the
co-ops. The explorable areas also offer named mobs that are a challenge
to kill, though they do not always spawn every time a person enters the
explorable area. Scenery can be rather breath taking from the caves of
Griffons Mouth to the swamps of the Cursed Lands.
